The curtain is still rising on the new Theatre School! Courses are being introduced in Acting, Musical Theatre, Directing, and Technical Stagecraft! We offer Level I and Conservatory Level classes. Serious students will eventually form the Academy Conservatory Ensemble, which will create and perform three productions a year, one each semester and one during the Summer Intensive.

Besides being fun and informative, these classes will build confidence, discipline, speaking skills, strength and endurance. Students will meet friends with similar interests and make contacts with professionals at the Richland Academy.

Acting Fundamentals I

Michael Thomas, Instructor

This course begins the process of developing a genuine understanding of the actor's craft. We explore techniques and theories essential to theatrical performance, including improvisation, concentration and fundamentals of acting.

Acting Fundamentals II

(Prerequisite is Acting Fundamentals I)

This course continues the process of understanding and developing the actor's craft through imporvisation, scene and character study and script analysis.

Introduction to Songwriting*

Jennifer Allen, Instructor

Musicians and poets will listen and learn by creating songs based on their own writings and discussions on structure, word choice, melodic line and chords. Musicla experience not required. The final class will be an infoermal public performance and discussion of new songs.

Advanced Music Composition and Arranging*

(Prerequisite is Introduction to Songwriting)

Jennifer Allen, Instructor

Students will extend their capabilities as musicians/songwriters with discussions in music theory, structure and chord choice, writing a lead sheet and using music for plot movement.They may write songs for a production, or write/arrange songs of their own.

*Students who play an instrument should bring it to class - a piano will be provided

Comedy Improv I

Michael Thomas, Instructor

This course is a fun exploration of comedy improvisation through theater games, confidence-building exercises and basic improvisation techniques, the performer explores creativity, learns to think "on his feet", team building skills and self-confidence.

Intermediate Comedy Improv II

(Prerequisite is Beginning Comedy Improv)

This advanced program builds upon the fundamentals of improvisation and helps students advance their scenic and character skills, explore forms and styles and learn how to use improvisation to create material for a satiric comedy revue.

Young Voices Workshop -

Improving Student Writing Through Theatre

Through a generous grant from the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, we are offering FREE school workshops in writing through theatre. These 1-10 hour flexible workshops are based on Ohio Content Standards and include a teacher packet with planning tips and follow-up ideas.
